“Saints and Singers”

A medieval miscellany from Scotland, Ireland and Europe featuring a host of colourful characters including miraculous Celtic saints, star-crossed lovers, pilgrims, a whale and a tribute to the feisty Abbess Hildegard of Bingen. Rebecca and Anne are regular singers with Cappella Nova, the Scottish professional vocal ensemble specialising in early and contemporary music, and founder members of the acclaimed medieval quintet, Canty. Bill Taylor is an expert in performance on medieval harps, especially the wire-strung clarsach of Scotland and Ireland, and he is highly respected internationally as a performer and teacher. This programme, specially created for Dalmeny Kirk, explores the medieval repertoire for which they are renowned as well as some modern surprises from John Cage, Ronald Stevenson and James MacMillan plus some toe-tapping traditional tunes.
