Workshop for the Transpennie Branch
8 July 2012
Starts: 10:30
Ends: 17:00
Starts: 10:30
Ends: 17:00
Bill will lead a day-long workshop in playing music from the
Robert ap Huw manuscript, the earliest body of harp music from
anywhere in Europe. The workshop is organised in partnership with
Transpennine Harps, a branch of the Clarsach Society. While the music
was originally played with fingernails on medieval harps strung with
gut or horsehair, all sizes of modern harps are welcome. Students are
invited to grow their fingernails to at least 2mm, but fingerpad
players may also attend. Bill will introduce the manuscript, explain
how to interpret the tablature and the technique, and will guide the
group through playing several extracts from the manuscript. For more
information, please contact Joan Dearnley.
